The town of Totana is favourably situated in the Southeast of Spain. It is located in the Southeast corner of the region of Murcia, and has an area of 287´67 km2. Its boundaries form a sloping rectangle to the NW and to the SE with a narrow extension in the middle towards the West flank. It borders on the towns of Lorca, Mazarron, Alhama de Murcia, Mula and Aledo.

The climate in this area is typically Mediterranean, very arid, with an annual average temperature of 17.8º C. There are about 100 days per year when the temperature rises above 30º and about 6 days of frost.

The average annual rainfall is 321 mm although there tends to be a great difference between the years, one wet and the next dry. Rainfall is irregular, but when it occurs it is usually very hard leading to floodings. Most rain falls during the autumn whereas the summer is practically dry.

The average humidity is around 64´2%. Winds are from light to moderate. The strongest winds appear in spring and the lightest during winter.

Solar radiation is very high, reaching almost 3000 hours of sun light per year a situation which makes for good weather conditions in the area and is ideal for agriculture, the only disadvantage being the lack of rain, which can be corrected through irrigation.

Totana has got a population of 25000 inhabitants spread between the inner city and the eight suburbs: Pareton, Raiguero, Lebor, Ñorica, Morti, Huerta, Viñas de Lebor and Sierra Espuña.
