The town of Totana is favourably situated in
the Southeast of Spain. It is located in the Southeast corner of
the region of Murcia, and has an area of 287´67 km2. Its boundaries
form a sloping rectangle to the NW and to the SE with a narrow extension
in the middle towards the West flank. It borders on the towns of
Lorca, Mazarron, Alhama de Murcia, Mula and Aledo.
The climate in this area is typically Mediterranean, very arid,
with an annual average temperature of 17.8º C. There are about
100 days per year when the temperature rises above 30º and
about 6 days of frost.
The average annual rainfall is 321 mm although there tends to be
a great difference between the years, one wet and the next dry.
Rainfall is irregular, but when it occurs it is usually very hard
leading to floodings. Most rain falls during the autumn whereas
the summer is practically dry.
